The Keys To Starting a Business

Starting a business takes a lot of planning. The first step in starting your business is to determine the type of business you want to have. You can purchase a franchise or start your own business.

Planning is key to starting any business and the business plan is a necessary tool in the planning process. A business plan does not need to be intimidating. Instead look at it as the ultimate guide for you to use in getting your business off to a good start. Every business needs a business plan.

The business plan starts by clearly stating what your goals are for the business. The business should have a philosophy that will flow to all the employees. This atmosphere or climate starts with you and the business plan.

Of course any good business plan needs to have a detailed look at finances. This means that you need to take a realistic look at what the initial startup costs will be along with the ongoing expenses. If you are not familiar with financial statements you may want to have an accountant help with this section.

When looking at the business costs one area that is often forgotten about is communications. Communications are actually an important consideration when starting a business. Every business needs to have a phone system, business long distance as well as network connections for computer access. As with anything the choices are varied and the prices vary as well.

The type of business you have will determine your communication needs. Some businesses rely heavily on incoming calls while others use the phone to solicit business. Consider where you will be making calls. Most business owners underestimate the amount of calling that will be done, particularly long distance. There are many different types of calling plans available. As a business you may be able to get some discounted rates by using a commercial long distance calling plan. There are many companies that offer telecommunication services.

Other things to consider when starting a business are rental fees. Consider the type of space you need to rent based on the type of business you have. If you have customers who will visit your business you need to have a storefront property. Take care to do some of your own market research before renting a space. Visit the area at various times of day and on different days of the week. See what the parking situation is. Determine the amount of foot traffic you will get in the area. If the area is not busy you may need to do considerable advertising to bring people to your business.

Another key area is advertising. Always include a monthly advertising budget in your plan. If you are not familiar with marketing strategies you may do well to hire a marketing expert who can guide your business to successful marketing strategies. Sometimes local advertising works well. Keep in mind that most advertising, whether print, radio or television, takes several viewing times before people respond.

Remember to include monthly recurring expenses in your plan such as utility expenses of garbage pickup, water, gas and electric. These expenses will be considerably more than residential costs typically are.

If you have a good solid business plan you can be sure that the business will start on the best possible foundation. Once the business has started consult the business plan to determine how you are meeting your goals and expectations. Take action quickly to make changes if your goals aren’t being met.

Things To Watch For To Start In Business and Tools You Need When Starting a Home Business

What I am going to talk to you about are the things that you need and what to watch out for when you start in business on the internet. I don’t know if you are like me but when I got started it was incredibly confusing. There are so many choices online, some good, some not so good and some just plain bad. I am going to give you the steps you need to take and the things you need to start in business online.

This Tool Is A Must Have

I am going to assume that you already know that you need a computer or access to one and an internet connection when starting a small business. The first thing you will need is a domain name. You should get yourname.com. This way you can start a blog. This is the best way to make money online and it is what all the big marketers do. They monetize their blog. I won’t go into exactly how this is done because I don’t have enough space in this article. I will tell how to access this information at the end of this article. In your effort to start in business you will also need a second domain name. You will have many over the life of your internet career.

This is where you will need to learn keyword research. You will find a keyword related to your industry and see if that name is available preferably in .com format. You can use .net however .com is still preferred. I will tell you where to go to access this training.

This article is designed to help you know what to look for in your training so that it is complete and thorough in your efforts to start in business. Obviously this article would not be long enough to train you in all aspects. Hopefully this will help you avoid some of the common pitfalls in your endeavor when starting a home business.

I believe network marketing is the way to go because of its long term income benefits. Whatever you decide to do though, even if it is affiliate marketing you will need your own website. Even if the company you are with has a company website you will still need one. You can copy the company website and put your own opt in form on it. This is so you can build your own list and collect any names and e-mails to keep in your own database. When you start in business the one thing you will hear all the gurus say is that the money is in the list and this is definitely true. I will explain what an opt in form is if you don’t already know.

Again don’t become overwhelmed with this information. I just wanted to give you an overview of what you will need. That way if you training does not include these things you can find it somewhere else so that you have everything you need to start in business.

Autoresponder, No Marketer Can Live Without One

An autoresponder is and service that allows you to mail out to multiple clients at one time. You can collect information critical to marketing success like name and e-mails on an opt in form. This service is a must have if you want to start in business online. There are many good services available but the top ones are Traffic Wave.net, Get Response, Aweber and IContact. There are others but these are the best ones. You have to consider deliverability rates. Does your e-mail get through or end up in the spam folder. You have to make sure the time you invest pays off when starting a home business.

A Tool For The Do It Yourselfer

Kompozer is open source software that allows you to create or modify web pages in what is called WYSIWYG format. WYSIWYG is an acronym that stands for what you see is what you get. This software works kind of like word processing software. It is very user friendly and there are many training articles online at YouTube.com. Also if you know anything about HTML then you can do some pretty cool stuff with your websites. This is a fantastic tool when you are going to start in business. There are training articles everywhere for HTML. Yes there is going to be a lot of work involved but how hard is it compared to conventional jobs. In your effort to start in business you didn’t listen to all the crap and hype that says it will work completely on auto pilot did you? There is no such business and if you hear someone say anything otherwise then you better run like the wind because starting a home business requires the same if not more tenacity and work than any other business.

Video Is The Best Marketing Tool

Video converts better than anything else on the internet. There are many tools that you can use but all you really need is anything to shoot video with. I started with a webcam. I also bought a flip video. You can Google flip video to find their site. Another good camera that is very inexpensive and probably better than the Flip is the Kodak zi8. I say better because it has a few other features that the flip does not have. The main one is an external microphone jack. This is important for voice quality. When starting a home business you won’t need the most expensive tools at first. The above mentioned tools will work just fine.

The Only Tools You Will Need

These are the only tools you will need to get started. There are other things you can use but these will work when you start in business. Don’t get caught up in all the hype from some of these sales pages and fall into their urgency trap and spend money that you don’t need to spend. When you start in business the money is most definitely in the list however there are ways around this to start with. My next article will be on the many ways to market online to get free traffic.

A Few Other Things You Will Need

You will need a YouTube.com account, a facebook.com account and a twitter.com account. Social networking is the hottest way to market online. You can get loads of free traffic. There are many other social networks that are really good but these are the main ones, a must have. I will have tips and some training in my next article.

Thank you for reading this article and I hope that it was somehow helpful. The thing to keep in mind is that every business you start requires a lot of work and some investment and starting a home business is no different so just be prepared. Avoid anyone who tells you that it does not require effort. However once you start in business and have everything set up then it becomes easier. You can take some time off and it will run for you while you are gone on vacation or when you are asleep. If you will do what others are not willing to do now then you can have what others can’t have in the future. Good luck to you in starting a small business.

Top 10 Starting A Business Questions

Top 10 questions to ask yourself when starting a business

What do you need to know when you are starting a business? These simple questions will help guide you when starting a business, and hopefully give you a head start to your journey as an entrepreneur.

If you really want to quit the 9-5 and are serious about starting a business, this post is a must.

If you’re thinking of starting a business, ask yourself the following questions;

How am I currently making money? How much start up capital do I have to invest in my new business? What am I really good at or passionate about? Am I an expert in a field already? Will I create my own product or promote someone elses? How much time can I commit to making money online? What tools will I need for starting a business? What am I not good at? What do I need to learn? What are my timescales?

Planning and focus is one of the most important stages of starting a business, and you’ll save yourself a lot of time and money if you make sure you are open and honest with yourself when in this stage.

Let’s go into the questions a little deeper…

How am I currently making money?
How are you making money right now?
Do you have a job already?
Are you working full time or part time?
Are you helping someone else out?
Are you looking for a job?

It’s easy to get confused, and think that you have to start from scratch, but if you’re making money already, consider incorporating the way you are making money into your new business. E.g are you currently in sales and have good product knowledge? Consider using this knowledge and the power of your existing contacts when starting a business.

How much start up capital do I have to invest in my new business?

So many people try starting a business and fail miserably due to lack of funding. Set your sights on what you can afford. Start small and invest however much you can afford in you or your business. Prioritise your spending and make sure you are investing only in essentials such as training, marketing or products.

What am I really good at or passionate about?

What skills do you already have? Is there a subject or a ‘niche’ that you are passionate about? If you are stuck for a business idea, look into your hobbies, passions and current skillset for direction.

Am I an expert in a field already?

Are you already an authority? Are you well known in your Niche? If you are already an expert in something, you can quite easily promote or sell that expertise online. No need to re-invent the wheel! Many people fail when they start a business because they launch into a completely new field that they know very little about and fail to do proper research. Don’t get caught out.

Will I create my own product or promote someone elses?

Affiliate marketing is perhaps one of the fastest and easiest ways of starting a business. Affiliate marketing involves promoting someone elses product in return for a commission when a sale is made. having said that, it is relatively simple to create your own info product such as a tutorial, a course or an e-book, so make sure you decide which route you will take before you start.

How much time can I commit to making money online?

Plan your time around your lifestyle. When I first started internet marketing, I was working all day and learning all night. I burnt the candle at both ends and got nowhere. When I finally used common sense and practised what I preached, I organised my work on a weekly schedule and got more done in those couple of hours a day than I had in the months of long days and nights before! Ensure you can afford to spare the time you are dedicating to starting a business.

What tools will I need for starting a business?

After speaking with lots of people who have spent thousands on products and software, make a list of what you really need and keep it simple! You don’t always need that ‘must have’ software, and remember, there is NO push button product that will make you money. Stick to these guidelines and save yourself a fortune!

What am I not good at?

Be honest with yourself. Just because you’re not good at something, you shouldn’t dwell on it and let it stop you starting a business. If you’re confident that you can learn the necessary skills with relative ease, then go for it. If not, With the power of outsourcing and sites such as odesk, elance and fiverr, you can get work done relatively cheaply, and free up your time to get on with other work.

What do I need to learn?

With so many courses available in all different areas of starting a business, making money online, software etc, it is important that you don’t try and do ‘everything’ Plan out what you need to learn and what can be outsourced, and try and stay focused on that plan. I am saying this because one of my WordPress Coaching students had spent $7,500 on courses without making a cent online - think about it, - do you really need to be a Photoshop expert before you launch your blog, or can you outsource the graphics and design work? Don’t let the learning curve hold you back.

What are my timescales?

What to Consider When Starting a Business

Becoming your own boss is an aspiration of many people all over the world. While it can be one of the greatest feelings in the world, it can also be one of the most complicated feats in the world to accomplish. As an entrepreneur you have to be money conscious before starting your new enterprise. The best way to start is with business plans and an open mind for what type of enterprise you would like to start. Whether it is a new business or an existing one, this article should be able to give you the right tools to begin.

Among other decisions, there are two things to consider when contemplating a new enterprise venture. Do you want to start an original one or purchasing an existing one? If you are looking to start an original venture, then the sky is the limit! You should be able to take anything you are interested in and turn it into a business. Are you interested in a home type venture? If you are, then consider things like a hair salon or a cleaning service that you can run from home. Sometimes businesses for sale can drop into your lap and be the best option of all. An existing one is often a great first project for a first time entrepreneur.

Starting a business is certainly rewarding and even more so once you develop your business plan. Once you have this done you can begin to focus on the financial and technical sides of owning your own enterprise. Having a financial plan will be one of the most important actions you will take when starting a small business. No matter what type you start, being prepared will be your ticket to a successful future. This may include getting business loans, which many new owners opt for, as this will be one of the most important steps you will take towards success and financially stability.

Why Its Important To Have A Business Plan Before Starting A Business

Many people want to start a business but haven’t a clue where to start. A lot of people want to start into the world of entrepreneurship and fail horribly because they do not have a solid foundation of what they want to do. Did you know that 98% of new businesses fail in their first year. Now in 99% of these situations that cause of that is the actual business owner them self. Either they do not have a solid plan of what they want to do and they’re making stuff up as they go along or they just do not know what they are doing period. This is why it is very important to have a business plan in place before spending so much money and time into a business that will fail like the other 98% of them. In the coming paragraphs I will explain the most important aspects of a business plan so that you can prepare yourself for your business venture before wasting your money or time.

The first and most important aspect of your business plan should be to figure what exactly you want to do. If you are offering a product, what does the product do for others? If you are offering a service, what are others going to get out of the service? You have to know what your business is going to do for others so that you can market it to the proper audience and not just anybody. You would not sell a can opener to someone who needs a new car engine right? Once you figure out what you want to do you have to figure out whether there is a market for that product or service. There is no point in trying to sell something if no one is going to want it.

The next most important aspect of a business plan is to figure out your initial expenses and estimate what your profit margin could be. If you go through this and figure out that your expenses are going to outweigh your profits then what is the point in even starting? Before even doing this portion it is a good idea to write out what your goals are of starting this business (ie. How much would you like your profit margin to be?)

Depending on the size of the organization you need to run you might want to figure out how many employees you will need. If it is an online business you may not need any. Now of course this isn’t all that would be in a business plan but this is a start.

In summary a business plan lays out your ground work for you and your business and the business plan is what you will follow to make your business succeed. Look at the business plan as a checklist to your success. If you can get the business plan to look good on paper then just make sure you go through all of it and ensure everything is completed exactly as it is on paper and you should be well on your way to profits.
